Education For Underprivileged Children
According to the report of UNESCO, 129 million girls across the globe are out of the educational campus, including 32 million who are at the primary school stage and 97 million at the secondary school stage. The World Bank Group’s dual objectives of eradicating extreme poverty and fostering better living standards are centered on achieving gender equality.
In India, a huge number of girls across the country can not go to school due to gender inequality, lack of interest from their parents, economic instability and many other associated factors. As per the Annual Status of Education Report, in 2018, 13.5% of Indian girls between the ages of 15-16 were totally out of school. It is true that the overall percentage of illiteracy rate has been reduced but the current status is not so good for a developing country.
Summary
The government should make serious efforts to increase the number, accessibility, and caliber of schools in India’s rural and urban areas. Along with this, individuals need to take initiative to develop a harmonious and educated society, by supporting girls’ education. We are trying to make a better future for all underprivileged girls and show them the true light of human life. Many underprivileged girls are suffering from the curse due to illiteracy. Gender-biased society, male domination, poverty, lack of awareness, early marriage and many factors are involved in this social challenge. We raise funds for them and give them proper nourishment through free education.
Story of Nirja
Nirja is a 7 years old girl who lives in Amethi, a popular district in UP, has the aim to go to college just like her elder brothers, but with the immense pressure of her grandparents, Nirja’s mother couldn’t admit her to primary school. She waits for the day when she can go to school for her basic education. “I would like to go to school as well as college because I want to work in a big office in the city”.
As per the gender inequality report of 2018, McKinsey Global Institute found that in India, women are performing unpaid work 10 times more than working men. According to McKinsey’s gender parity report from last year, India could boost its GDP by a staggering $770 billion by 2025 if it encourages females to study and enter the job.
Challenge
Gender Bias:
Male-dominant society and culture are one of the main challenges for female education. Parents are showing their interest to give education to their girls in underprivileged societies. Lack of education among girls nourishes gender biasness which is a curse of our society.
Poverty:
Poverty is another significant reason for illiteracy. When people are not getting their regular food properly, going to school becomes luxurious for them. But the exciting fact is that as per the study by UNESCO, a society can not achieve economic as well as financial success if its girls are being uneducated.
Violence:
Many girls also encounter violence while attending school. In accordance with the most recent statistics, a huge number of underprivileged girls across the country experience sexual assault each year either on the route to or while at school. Along with having negative effects on their overall health, attendance, and dropout rates, this frequently has major negative effects on their emotional, physical, and social well-being.
Child Marriage:
Due to poverty and lack of education, girls are getting married before the proper age. Among the underprivileged community, it has been seen that the practice of child marriage is a common incident. Child marriage limits the scope of proper education among slum dwellers.
Inefficient social growth:
To achieve development, society needs the participation of both males and females simultaneously. Girl education is one of the most significant ways to involve females in social development. It has been seen that underprivileged girls need the education to facilitate social growth accordingly.
Negative attitude of parents:
India’s poor girl literacy rate is the cause of the negative attitude of parents about their girls’ education. Boys are typically given precedence in their families but girls are not receiving the same treatment. Underprivileged girls’ parents think that female education is simply seen as a waste of time and resources.
