Rural Women Skill Development Program by ARTSofINDIA.in
ARTSofINDIA.in & Pramadaya India Foundation through their stellar efforts are organizing a 1 month women skill enhancement workshop in the valleys of Imphal.
This workshop aims at training 15 ardent rural women in Kauna grass weaving. The skills of these women will be honed as they will be investing 4-5 hours daily in sessions organised by one of the national award winning and topmost craftswoman of the country- Ms.Yandibala.
The history of Kauna
are inseparable, as the grass were originally used to craft hats to be worn in the agricultural fields. Being highly durable, flexible and growing up to 2 metres in length, Kauna proves to be one of the best suited grass for weaving purposes.
With a vision of uplifting women, Pramadaya India Foundation will offer these women basic weaving techniques where they will passionately craft baskets, handbags, grocery bags, table mats and even hats, all made out of the endemic Kauna grass.
To ensure that all their efforts are recognised and don’t come at a price of economic loss, Arts Of India will directly sell every product made during the workshop on its website www.artsofindia.in. The funds collected by the sale of these products will be remitted to its respected craftswoman so that their hardships and skills do not come at the price of economic loss. Through this we aim to blend the rich cultural heritage of Imphal and the skills of native women.
Let us bloom the essence of Kauna and the tradition of Imphal..
